Works well, couple of concerns August 31, 2010 ksuwildkat (Monterey, CA) Apparently my Airport card failed in my almost 4 year old MacBookPro and replacing it was going to cost $[...] plus labor. I am overdue for a replacement and didnt want to spend $[...] for something I wasnt going to use in 6 months. Writing this review connected with this so if you are reading this, it works. So that is the most important thing, it works. I unpacked it, screwed in the antenna and then went to the Alpha website for drivers. I had to google the model number because as you can see, the address is not the most obvious. [...] Downloading the drivers was interesting because you get directed to [...] free file sharing site. Apparently keeping down costs is important. The Mac drivers were for 10.3-10.6 but there was a warning that the Snow Leopard drivers did not work. I attempted to instal them anyway and was rewarded with a working system. But the software does in fact fail randomly. While it was working, I could see that this little thing has some serious range and pulling power. Instead of the normal 3 networks visible (2 mine, one next door) I got 8, one of which I know is over 300 meters away. Not bad. Now for the bad part. This thing looks pretty fragile. Tomorrow I am buying a short USB extension cord so I dont have this plugged directly into the port. And it has a very annoying blue light to tell you its working. Black tape will solve that. I have tried it with and without the antenna and in the house it works fine without an antenna. Overall, Im very happy. I have wireless again and when I retire this machine I can hang on to this as a backup. Always good to have plan B!
WiFi for my PC August 22, 2010 David R. Smouse (Chandler,Arizona) We wre currently having to stay at an extended stay hotel/motel until we find another place to live and since they offer free WiFi, I needed to get this for my desktop PC so I could go online. It works great and was a lot less expensive on Amazon.com than anywhere else I researched and delivered for a decent cost.
Cheap yet powerful. August 13, 2010 David J. Kauffman (Kalamazoo, MI USA) I bought this to use with my Viewsonic VMP75 media player as it is recommended for this unit. Pros: Cheap Strong signal Cons: It feels REALLY cheap It's kind of big Overall I can't complain. It was as easy as screwing in the antenna and plugging it into my VMP75 player and it was up and running. Just wish it wasn't so large.
Great Item Works with WD TV Live August 4, 2010 TD I bought hoping it would work with my Western Digital TV live. I opened the packaged plugged it in and was connected to my wireless network in under a min. No problems wireless streaming 720p video from my computer upstairs to my entertainment center in my basement.
