Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Introducing the most convenient 801.11n wireless adapter. To use the USB-A11n USB Wireless-N Adapter with Antenna, you can just plug it to any USB port on your notebook or desktop computer, and get instant wireless N access. It is also compatible with the older wireless 802.11b and 802.11g network. The USB-A11n USB Wireless-N Adapter with Antenna connects your desktop or notebook computer to a wireless network. Providing greater range and faster speeds, N offers an excellent solution for sending large files such as video, music, photos, and documents among the networked computers in your home. Based on the 802.11n draft, N Wireless enables multiple receivers and transmitters to send and receive data using Intelligent MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) spatial multiplexing techniques which greatly increases speed, coverage, and the reliability of the wireless network. With the advanced MIMO technology, it can support the data transmission rate 6 times more (up to 300Mbps) and the coverage 3 times more than IEEE 802.11b/g devices. The USB2.0 Wireless LAN adapter gives you the flexibility to install the PC or notebook PC in the most convenient location available, without the cost of running network cables. This Wireless USB 2.0 adapter enables wireless internet access to either your desktop or notebook PC. It simply plugs into the external USB port of your PC. Gain full mobility with your notebook, or place your desktop anywhere in your home, without the need of unsightly Ethernet cables. Its compact, pocket-sized design can be carried anywhere. With the internal intellective antenna, the Adapter can adapt to different operational environments and let the user connect to the Wireless network easily. the Adapter also supports Seamless Roaming and is compatible with other 11b, 11g and 11n WLAN equipments.

1 out of 5 stars Doesn't work   November 18, 2009
James C. Ohaver (St. Joseph, MI USA)
I purchased these, thinking that these sounded too good to be true, and sure enough they were. I have tryed installing the supplied software on two desktop and two laptop computers, but haven't had any luck at all. I wish I could say something good about this product, but I can't get the software and the hardware to communicate with each other. I wish I could return these, but I can't find the package they came in. I guess I'll just have to chock it up to a lesson learned.

5 out of 5 stars Very satisfying performance for the price   November 2, 2009

Everything turned out fine. It has been over a month now, and so far so good. It was for an upgrade from 802.11g to 802.11n for my laptop Wi-Fi. The signal strength has been boosted from 25-54 mbps to 118-135 mbps (one floor down away from the router with the basement door closed).
If I am to nitpick for something, it will be its structural design. It could've been better. Unplugged and apart from the laptop, it looks pretty and nice by itself. But when it's plugged in, it assumes a look of unstableness and vulnerability. I had to attach a small flat eraser to the bottom side to make it less vulnerable to any accdental downward impact. Otherwise, this is a good, reliable piece of gadget.
I am happy enough to recommend it.

1 out of 5 stars Made in China...need I say more?   October 16, 2009

I bought this without doing the normal research I normally do on CNET and other tech sites because I was panicked and in a hurry.

Well, haste makes waste.

This product simply doesn't deliver. It did nothing to boost my signal, as it claimed it would. I was teetering on 12% before I added the antenna, and the max it got up to over a two hour period with the antenna was 15%. What happened to increased coverage that the packaging claimed? I couldn't even check my email.

The antenna is lightweight and cheaply made, requiring you to tighten it on its USB connector if you're busy moving the antenna around trying to find a signal. After a few hours of no improvement, I fashioned a parabolic attachment (a home-made satellite dish made out of a Styrofoam bowl and aluminum foil), after which I was able to boost my signal up to 50%. Still, this is unacceptable. But could we expect anything else from China?

I'm no expert on these products, but I know when something doesn't do as it claims. The user interface is heady and complex and will only frustrate a consumer that wants to simply connect-n-surf. I won't even go into my hesitation about the product's software. Who knows what its quality is like? Who knows what may be lurking among its code while you're surfing, banking, etc? (Paranoid? Maybe, but if China's products are suspect, I shudder to think what viruses or security issues their software could pose.)

After connecting the hardware, I went searching the web for reviews and came up empty-handed. I wonder why.

Do yourself a favor and avoid this product. There has to be better boosters out there, preferably one made in the West. I don't care if it's Mexico. ANYWHERE but China.

PS: I disconnected twice while writing this review, even though the product's accompanying Ralink Wireless Utility software claims I'm at 72%. Go figure.

4 out of 5 stars Nice replacement   September 28, 2009

I bought this because the built-in wireless adapter for my HP laptop started malfunctioning and only worked sometimes. The installation was easy enough, just load the software then plug in the adapter. Immediately, I realized that I was now picking up many more wireless networks and even the ones I was accustomed to, the signal was much stronger and faster ....... absolutely love this product
